LMPN Executive Director Rose Chan Loui spoke to The Guardian about the Department of Justice’s charge that former Arcadia mayor Eileen Wang was acting as an illegal foreign agent of Beijing. Chan Loui has written extensively about the Foreign Agents Registration Act, a criminal statute that requires entities and individuals to register if they are acting on behalf of a foreign entity. Chan Loui explains that the US law is quite broad: “It doesn’t matter what the content is, as long a you think it will influence the public’s opinion. That’s the only intent you need to have.”
